Life in the Light

Not To Be Taken Lightly

Not To Be Taken Lightly

I love lifting up 'The Word' of GOD. His Word is a light unto my feet. I preached my very first message from the pulpit at Grace Baptist Church in September, 1994. When I first entered into the sanctuary, I saw the congregation patiently waiting. The anticipation of telling 'The Word' in the way that GOD wanted it to be told was growing in the pit of my stomach. Once I stepped up to the pulpit, I realized that I no longer was in control but that the Holy Spirit was doing the leading. I was in harmony with the Holy Spirit within me.

Preaching GOD's Word is an honor and a privilege that is bestowed upon the preacher by the Almighty GOD. However, I do believe that some very profound messages are preached by lay persons. A preschooler once asked her Sunday School teacher if it was okay to play with GOD. When the teacher related this to me, I thought, "What a powerful message". Is it okay to play with GOD?

My Uncle Thermon was a deacon at Grace Baptist Church. He and I had a special bond. Uncle Thermon had a twinkle in his eyes that melted my heart. When he could no longer drive, I would go to his home and cut his hair. These were special times for me for upon entering the sanctity of his home, he would greet me with, "Hello, Reverend". He and I would fellowship together by praying, and testifying about GOD's grace. He preached great messages to me in the comfort of his home. He often said that a man's life on earth is too short, so one should live their life to the fullest. I relate his messages to Ecclesiastes because he would often say that there is nothing new under the sun. No matter how you decide to live your life, always give GOD his due respect for He is the Creator.

"Consider the work of GOD. Who can make straight what He has made crooked? On a good day enjoy good things, and on an evil day consider: Both the one and the other GOD has made, so that man cannot find fault with Him in anything" (Ecclesiastes 7:13,14 -NAB).

If one were to examine the true meaning of life, they would understand that it is a privilege to be able to take breath into the body. "Light is sweet, and it is "Not To Be Taken Lightly".

"A voice cries out:

'In the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our GOD. Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain.

Then the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all the people shall see it together for the mouth of the LORD has spoken.'

A voice says, 'Cry out!' And I said, 'What shall I cry?' All people are grass, their constancy is like the flower of the field. The grass withers, the flower fades, when the breath of the LORD blows upon it; surely the people are grass. The grass withers, the flower fades; but 'The Word' of our GOD will stand forever." (Isaiah 40:3-8)
